The company supplies major retailers across South Africa and sells directly to consumers through its online platform. The investment in Herbivore Earthfoods is closely aligned to Tiger Brands’ health and nutrition strategy. Together with co-investor, Secha Capital, an early-stage impact private equity firm, the Tiger Brands Venture Capital Fund has become a minority shareholder in the business, which is co-run by Founder, Chanel Grantham and Davey du Plessis, Herbivore Earthfoods’ Operations Head. Tiger Brands’ involvement will include strategic guidance, as well as leveraging the Group’s route-to-market capabilities and research and development expertise. The Tiger Brands Venture Capital Fund was launched in 2021 with the aim of driving growth for Tiger Brands by investing in innovative businesses based in sub-Saharan Africa which offer healthier eating options in line with emerging consumer trends in health and nutrition, snackification and economical food options.
