DELAY IN PUBLICATION OF FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2018 AND TRADING STATEMENT

In accordance with the Listings Requirements of the Botswana Stock Exchange and the
Johannesburg Stock Exchange (“Listings Requirements”), Choppies is currently in the process of
finalising its consolidated annual financial results for the year ended 30 June 2018, which it is
required to publish on or before 30 September 2018.

The finalization of these results is taking longer than had been anticipated. A number of matters
requiring the attention of the Board and management, which may impact materially on the
results, are still being considered and the possible reporting impacts of these matters have not yet
been finally and fully determined.

Shareholders are advised that the Group will therefore not publish results for the year ended 30
June 2018 by the required deadline of 30 September 2018. The Group will inform shareholders
of the anticipated publication on or before 15 October 2018.

TRADING STATEMENT

In terms of paragraph 3.4(b) of the JSE Limited (“JSE”) Listings Requirements, companies are
required to publish a trading statement as soon as they have reasonable certainty that the
financial results for the next period to be reported upon will differ by at least 20% from those of
the previous corresponding period.

Based on the results compiled to date, the Board has reasonable certainty that the Group’s profit
after tax for the year ended 30 June 2018 will be at least 20% or BWP14,93 million lower, when
compared to the BWP74,64 million profit reported in the previous corresponding period.

As the results are in the process of being finalised, the Group does not have the required
certainty to be able to provide more detailed guidance or an expected range of the decrease in
profit.

A further announcement will be released as soon as reasonable certainty in this regard has been
obtained.

The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not been reviewed or
reported on by the Company’s external auditors.

The Company’s primary listing is on the Botswana Stock Exchange and its secondary listing is
on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
